Algo Banner FAQ

How does it work?

You can change the message any time by sending a small Algo transaction!

Each line is associated with an Algo address, and the last 8 transactions sent to that address determines the 8 characters shown:

  • Each transaction amount is converted to a UTF-16 character as follows: for a transaction of 0.006500, 65 will be converted to the UTF-16 character represented by this decimal code ('A').
  • Digits after the 4th decimal place are ignored – for a 1.234599 transaction, only the digits 12345 will be considered.
  • Latin/English letters are 65 through 122 (i.e., transaction amounts of 0.0065 to 0.0122, currently about 1-2 cents). Other UTF-16 characters are also supported, see this site for a full list.

Are there any risks?

As with any crypto transaction, transactions are final, so please double-check to ensure you send the correct amount to the correct address.

Keep in mind that the Algorand network charges a small 0.001 fee on each transaction.

Algo Banner reserves the right to modify the way transactions are represented in the banner message.

Why does the Algo Banner say something offensive?

The message on Algo Banner is controlled by visitors, and does not represent the views of Algo Banner or its creators.

If an offensive message is brought to our attention, we reserve the right to send transactions to erase or modify that message.

I sent a transaction, why do I not see my selected letter?

Make sure your transaction was sent to the correct address.

Although Algo transactions take just a few seconds, it may up to a minute for Algo Banner to update. If it has not updated after a minute, please clear your cache and refresh.

Algo Banner only considers the 8 most recent transactions, so you may not see your selected character if there are 8 transactions after yours. You can see if this happened by reviewing transactions to that address on algoexplorer.io.

What is done with the Algo that is sent to these addresses?

Proceeds will be used to offset Algo Banner's domain registration, hosting, transaction fees, and development costs.
